The Greenbrier Ghost case

Greenbrier County, West Virginia

The record

After Zona Heaster Shue's death in 1897, her mother reported visits from her daughter's ghost and sought further investigation. An examination identified violent injuries, and Zona's husband was convicted. West Virginia tourism explicitly notes that newspapers attributed the conviction to circumstantial evidence, rather than literal testimony from a ghost.

Paranormal explanations remain claims, not established facts. Read the original sources for context.
